Parvat Manthan - Manifestation of Clean and Sustainable Hill States

Indian Himalayan Range

Active Period

2023 - Present

Description

The platform aims to foster collaboration among Himalayan states and cities to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to water, sanitation, and climate resilience. The goal is to build a collaborative and responsive platform that provides support to hill states, cities, and towns, of the Indian Himalayan Range (IHR) enabling them to actively engage with one another and with the central government to become inclusive, sustainable, and climate-resilient states in the urban water, sanitation, and waste management sectors.

Outstanding Features

The platform serves as an enabler that promotes collective action and cross-learning. It advocates the power of collective leverage and brings together the strengths of various stakeholders and organizations toward a unified goal. It works towards sustainability, safety, and equity, ensuring no one is left behind in the face of the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) climate change nexus. To date, a compendium showcasing the indigenous practices in the area and 2 policy papers, and guidelines have been published. Within a short span, the platform reach has expanded to Nepal and Bhutan, and it has capacitated around 1500 participants through training, peer-to-peer learning.

NIUA has recently published a compendium, which covers many case studies from the Himalayan region, including India, Nepal, and Bhutan, on water, sanitation, and solid waste.
