Description
The CO-HATY project is a Ukrainian initiative that emerged in 2022 to address the housing crisis caused by Russia's full-scale invasion. Launched by the urban laboratory METALAB and the Urban Curators agency, CO-HATY focuses on transforming abandoned public buildings into dignified, community-oriented housing for internally displaced persons (IDPs).
The name "CO-HATY" combines the Ukrainian words for "to love" (CO) and "houses" (HATY), reflecting the project's commitment to creating homes with care and respect.
CO-HATY encourages community participation through volunteering, donations, and spreading awareness. Volunteers are trained on-site and provided with necessary tools and safety equipment. The project also accepts donations of building materials, furniture, and household items. CO-HATY exemplifies how grassroots initiatives can provide sustainable, community-centered solutions to housing crises, offering hope and stability to those displaced by conflict.
