Overview
Boomforest, a non-profit, uses Akira Miyawaki's technique to plant dense, native mini forests that grow faster and have greater biodiversity than conventional landscaping. After three years, these forests become self-sufficient. Over 20 forests have been planted across France, including Paris.

Description
The non-profit Boomforest organization plants dense mini forests of native species using a technique developed by Japanese botanist, Akira Miyawaki, to accelerate urban reforestation. The resulting forests grow more quickly and have greater biodiversity than conventional landscaping. After three years of care, the forests are self-sufficient. Boomforest has now planted more than 20 such forests across France, including several in Paris.
Outstanding Features
This example provides a low-cost and highly participatory way for people to improve their environment in a manner that promotes lasting aesthetic improvement, greater biodiversity, and climate mitigation. The group says that after three years, each forest is self-sufficient, and in twenty years, “it will look like a hundred-year-old natural forest.” This initiative, along with a number of other climate projects, has received support from the City of Paris under the leadership of Mayor Anne Hidalgo.
